Lead Occupational Health Physician (REF:STH913)

Role Summary

Deliver comprehensive and effective Occupational Health services ensuring that high professional standards and quality standards are maintained on a consistent basis and in line with best practice. The lead OHP Railways is an integral member of the OH team providing leadership in relation to clinical standards and clinical governance within this sector. This role is responsible for determining the clinical standards within the Railway contracts and for ensuring correct clinical governance and compliance to railway standards.

Hours: Full time - 40 hours

Location: London

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of the OH clinical governance process for the Rail customers
  • Ensuring the integrity of the OH clinical standards for Rail customers
  • Work in partnership with the Network Rail CMO
  • Clinical lead for the Railway clinical team
  • Work with the Consultant OHPs (COP) and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to ensure high professional standards are delivered in accordance with business needs
  • Advice on clinical issues in relation to the existing and new railway business
  • Working with the business development team to develop the business pipelines
  • Provide and deliver agreed occupational medicine services to customers within agreed performance targets
  • Provide clinics, as agreed with the Direct Line Manager, to support the achievement of key performance indicators
  • Provide effective coaching to employed and Associate Occupational Physicians / Doctors
  • Support the Direct Line Manager in all resourcing issues for OH Physicians / Doctors, including recruitment, retention, management, coaching and mentoring
  • Provide professional support to Direct Line Managers on policy issues and in relationships with customers
  • Maintain links with appropriate professional networks to ensure leading edge healthcare approaches and provide innovative solutions to meet customer needs
  • Undertake any ad hoc responsibilities as and when requested by the Direct Line Manager

Experience, skills and knowledge required for the role

  • Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine
  • A Medical Practitioner who has, since full registration, consolidated their skills and continued their medical education in line with the requirements of continuing medical education / continuing professional development.
  • Full unconditional registration with the General Medical Council with a valid Licence to Practise
  • IT literate – ability to use and be efficient with IT, knowledge of Mircosoft Office, Excel and Outlook
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and strong understanding of, and ability to deal with people management issues
  • Able to present to large audiences
  • Sound understanding of the issues relating to the recruitment and retention of OH Physicians / Doctors
  • Sound understanding of the role and implications of clinical governance
  • Flexible and innovative approach to delivering high quality Professional services within a fast-moving business environment
  • Customer first outlook, establishing and maintaining a strong customer focus to ensure effective customer relations
  • Able to identify and address professional training and development issues
  • Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills with strong commercial and business awareness
  • A pragmatic approach to solving problems, excellent task management skills with coordinating multiple activities to meet deadlines
  • Highly developed written and verbal and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Health, Safety & Environment Responsibilities

Ensuring that staff are appropriately trained and supervised
• Appropriately identify, assess and manage health, safety and environmental risks
• Undertake health and safety risk assessments and implement measures to eliminate or control these risks
• Ensure that accidents, incidents, near misses and any non-conformances are reported correctly
• Promote environmental awareness and encourage employees to minimise waste, improve energy efficiencies and reduce their impact on their immediate and wider surroundings

Information Security Responsibilities

• Ensure you comply with all aspects of our Information Security Management system
• Ensure you read and understand our Information Security policies (eg Data Protection)
• Ensure full compliance with the confidentiality statement issued to you upon employment. This includes being wary of the different types of processing that can be carried out on information including informal communications outside of the office.
• Ensure you report any identified or suspected information security incidents and weaknesses through the reporting system
